Rise Against Hunger
Rise Against Hunger is an international charity
Forever Living and the charity Rise Against Hunger
What is Rise Against Hunger and what does the organization do?
At Forever we are so proud to support the charity Rise Against Hunger (riseagainsthunger.org). An international hunger relief organization that distributes life-changing food and aid to the world’s most vulnerable. They do this by providing food packages to those in dire need. Often to school children, patients in hospitals or vulnerable adults in the community.
Worldwide, 821 million people do not eat enough. From twenty cities in the United States, six international locations in South Africa, Malaysia, the Philippines, Italy, India and Peru, Rise Against Hunger involves volunteers from churches, schools, associations, as well as companies like us in this project.
What has Forever done to fundraise so far? What goals did Forever fulfill in 2017 and 2018?
Forever Living Products held its first meal packaging event with Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) in 2015. Then employees packed 300,000 meals at the Global Rally in Singapore. In 2016, the event was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, where 350,000 meals were packed.
In 2017, Forever Living Products set a challenge to pack one million meals by the end of the year. Many Forever offices around the world have committed to achieving the goal of one million meals in 2017. The event began with a packing event of more than 50,000 meals at the Department of the Interior in Scottsdale, Arizona. And then in January, Sweden committed to packing 200,000 meals, with Germany adding an additional 26,000. India, Italy and Greece also packed more than 150,000 meals combined. In addition, Forever Living Products organized an event to pack several hundred thousand meals at the 2017 Global Gathering in Dubai last April.
Forever UK
To further contribute to this, Forever UK also held its first Rise Against Hunger meal packing event on Saturday 12th August 2017. Over 135,000 food packages consisting of fortified rice, soy protein and dried vegetables were packed by 600 volunteers from all over the country. The meals were then distributed to vulnerable children in schools in Zimbabwe, where for many it will be the one and only meal of the day!
On Sunday, August 19, 2018, we smashed our goal of packing 130,000 meals in just a few hours! During this year’s event Forever welcomed the Mayor of Warwick who kicked off a fantastic day for all. We also welcomed BBC TV Midlands who covered the event and this was broadcast as part of BBC Midlands TV’s Sunday evening regional news. We were also part of BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire’s Gold & Treasures Live. When reporter Emily joined the pack and interviewed Bob Parker.
Bob was also interviewed by Free radio, which aired as part of the three morning news on Sunday. Free Radio is the biggest radio network in the Midlands with 800k listeners a week! In addition, the Warwick Courier and Leamington Observer also carried stories leading up to the event.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who helped out in 2017 and 2018! We smashed our global goal of over a million meals (2,741,030 meals packed, 24,918 lives fed, 11,706 volunteers engaged, 27 global events held), and now we plan to pack even more in 2019!
What are Forever’s goals in relation to Rise Against Hunger
Forever has set a challenge to pack and donate an incredible five million meals over the next two years to this worthy cause. A number that we believe is achievable if all Forever Country Offices join together!
This year the UK plans to hold another successful packing event in August.
Once again, we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who entered – you’re amazing.
Forever’s fundraising ideas
Will you join us in our attempt to end world hunger by 2030? We’ve put together some fundraising ideas to help you with your plans:
- Charity walk – whether you walk outside or on a treadmill, choose a distance and ask people if they would sponsor you per mile.
- Girls Night Out – It’s easy, just invite your friends and ask them to donate the amount to Rise Against Hunger that they would normally spend on a night out.
- Bake Sale – Whether you’re hosting an event at work, school or at home, bake as many as you can and sell in batches.
- Auction – Do you have any antiques or collectibles? Organize an auction event and sell them for charity.
- Afternoon tea – we are a nation of tea drinkers, so your event is sure to prove popular.
- Coffee Morning – Most people rely on coffee to get them through the day, so why not host a coffee morning?
- Themed dinner – Do you like to socialize? Then host your own dinner party and charge people a set fee for food and drink.
- Soccer game – raise funds by charging a player fee.
- Name the stuffed animal – A simple guessing game where people pay by guessing the name of a teddy bear, bunny or teddy bear. Whoever guesses correctly wins the toy!
We will post more information about our partnership and fundraising initiatives as and when it becomes available. So keep an eye out for weekly e-newsletters and social media channels.
